Copenhagen Short Film Festival 2015
Once again we get a massive chunk of inspiration and energy from the thriving German short film scene. This year animation is a major focus as we welcome Ulrich Wegenast of the long running and influential Stuttgart Animation Film Festival. He will present programs from both Stuttgart and Baden-Württemberg. Susann Maria Hempel, who is a major figure today in the German (short film) milieu will attend the festival and present her work and engage in an on-stage dialogue with Berlin-based journalist and curator, Claus Löser, who has functioned as a trend-spotter for us the last two years. Our special Danish guest this year is Amalie Smith, a published writer and artist working in diverse mediums. Of course the two blocks of Danish Shorts remain the pillar of our festival, providing a chance to spotlight promising talent. Additionally the Paris-based Collectif Jeune Cinéma, has provided us with an international selection of shorts of a experimental nature, and last but not least we continue our tradition of screening at least one show on authentic celluloid – this year focused on American underground works from 1964-1999, all presented on 16 mm.
This year our festival is dedicated to the Danish artist, filmmaker and provocateur, Jens Jørgen Thorsen (1932-2000) who tirelessly attacked the wisdoms and conventions of respectable society and who articulated in various utterances the belief that the short film – as opposed to the feature length (and commercial) movie – was in and of itself subversive and hence vital.
