Finding your voice is no easy task. Two award-winning Lithuanian directors, who both began their cinematic journey as DOPs – Laurynas Bareiša and Vytautas Katkus – have successfully met this challenge. This program presents their cinematic perspectives that often defy the conventional rules of filmmaking. From the very first minutes, you may assume to understand what Bareiša’s films (The Camel and Caucasus) are all about, yet their fundamental and at times unspoken conflicts lie much deeper. Katkus’s films (Community Gardens and Cherries) keep slightly diverging from reality, all to intensify the sensation of reality itself. Despite their relatively recent entry into directing, the standout shorts of Bareiša and Katkus are premiering at major festivals and receiving praise from critics – and rightly so. This block is made in collaboration with Lithuanian Shorts and the Lithuanian Cultural Attache in Sweden, Finland and Denmark, supported by the Lithuanian Film Centre.

Both directors, Laurynas Bareiša and Vytautas Katkus, will be present at the screening an doing a Q&A after the films.
